Despite the recent difficulties faced by the French government, French consumers continue to buy electric vehicles. More than 15% of all new cars sold in France last month were pure electric vehicles, with the new Renault 5 becoming the sales champion of the French pure electric vehicle market with its retro style.

The turmoil in France has taken a toll on the entire French car market, with French car sales falling 12.7% in November compared with the same period last year, with new car sales in the country reaching 133,318 units that month. As of the end of November, France’s cumulative new car sales in 2024 fell 3.7% year-on-year to 1,534,756 units.
However, hybrids and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) showed strong growth momentum in the French market, with an increase of 34%. Pure electric vehicles accounted for 15% of total sales in France, reaching an important milestone, and Renault Renault 5 E-Tech was the winner in this sales race.
As a hot new product, Renault 5 experienced its first full month of sales in November, which helped its sales in France that month. In November, Renault sold a total of 3,316 Renault 5 E-Tech in the French market, indicating that the model has made a good start in the French domestic market.
In contrast, in the French pure electric vehicle sales ranking, the world’s best-selling car Tesla Model Y “only” delivered 3,175 units under huge preferential policies, while Citroen ë-C3 ranked third with 1,239 units. In the French new car sales ranking, Renault 5 ranked seventh.
