Brembo, the global leader in braking systems, has announced a further investment in advanced connected mobility solutions with the acquisition of a partial stake in Spoke Safety, a US start-up focused on developing digital communication technologies for use between vehicles and the road ecosystem, according to a media report.
With this investment, Brembo will continue to enhance its expertise in software and cloud connectivity to enable digital innovation in its solutions. The company’s goal is to drive communication between braking systems and other grid-connected elements in the surrounding environment.
Daniele Schillaci, CEO of Brembo, said, “The investment in Spoke Safety is another step in our digital innovation of braking systems. Our vision is to enhance the driving experience and safety in the near future by enabling braking systems to communicate and interact not only with fully equipped vehicles, but also with the entire road ecosystem, including other vehicles, infrastructure, and communication networks.”
Brembo has initiated a research program with Spoke Safety. The collaboration began with the Brembo Silicon Valley Innovation Lab (Brembo Inspiration Lab), which, among other goals, seeks out innovative startups that can contribute to Brembo’s ability to realize software and artificial intelligence developments.
Founded in 2020 in Denver, Colorado, USA, Spoke Safety’s solutions are based on vehicle-to-electronics (V2X) technology, a communication system that connects vehicles in real time with other vehicles, road users, including cyclists, and smart city infrastructure, such as traffic lights, with the aim of improving the driving experience and enhancing road safety.
Spoke Safety joins the portfolio of Brembo Ventures, the venture capital arm of the company, which invests globally in top technology startups to support Brembo’s innovative growth and accelerate the development of new future-proof mobility solutions.
